FAQ
Our Approach
Where are you located?
We currently service New York City and the Boston Metro area, though we do not have a physical location. Instead, for your convenience our physical therapists come to you either in-person at your home or virtually via telehealth.
Is in-home and virtual physical therapy as good as physical therapy in a clinic setting?
The best physical therapy program is the one that you stick to. 70% of patients drop out from physical therapy partly because of the time wasted in commute and in waiting rooms. Kins helps you stick with your program by bringing physical therapy to you.
Most physical therapy programs do not require a facility or clinic setting. In fact, multiple studies have shown that in-home and telehealth programs are equally effective in driving clinical outcomes. If you have any questions about whether our model is right for you, call us at (212) 287-4257
How does the Kins model help me recover faster?
Not only is our model more convenient so that you can stick to physical therapy, but we offer a more personalized, evidence-based approach to care.
Personalized care: Kins therapists spend a full 45-55 minutes with you at each appointment, which is 3x more than at a traditional clinic. With that extra time, our therapists are able to listen carefully to your unique needs and tailor a plan of care for your specific lifestyle so that you can heal faster.
Evidence-based approach: Our therapists follow evidence-based approaches to care. Although passive approaches to care -- like heat, ice, ultrasounds, STEM machines -- can feel good, their outcomes are typically short-lived. At Kins, we believe in an active approach to healing through movement and exercise, which has been shown to result in longer-lasting outcomes.
How many appointments are in-home? How many are virtual?
It is entirely up to you and your therapist. Some of our patients do only at-home appointments, some only virtual, and some do a mix of both appointments. We encourage you to talk to your physical therapist about the right mix for you.
What conditions do you treat?
We treat most conditions requiring physical therapy. See for a full list.
Insurance & Getting Started
Do you take insurance?
Yes, we are in-network with most major commercial insurance. Your cost with Kins will always be the exact same as if you visited a traditional physical therapy clinic.
How can I find out how much Kins costs with insurance?
We believe in price transparency at Kins. Because each person’s cost is slightly different based on their insurance plan, we need to collect information on your insurance to give you an exact cost. Specifically we’ll need:
- Your name
- Insurance plan
- Member ID
- Date of Birth

Do I need a prescription or referral from a doctor to start physical therapy?
In New York, most insurances do not require a doctor’s referral to start physical therapy. If your insurance requires a prescription, we will let you know before we start your care with us so that you can be confident in how much you’ll pay.
Appointment details
What are your hours of operation?
We operate 7 days per week from 7 am - 8 pm. If you are not seeing availability online, please contact us at (212) 287-4257.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you cancel or reschedule more than 24 hours in advance, then there is no charge. Appointments cancelled or rescheduled less than 24 hours in advance will incur a $50 charge to compensate physical therapists for the inconvenience.
Do I need to buy equipment?
No. For in-home appointments, your therapist will bring any required equipment to you. For virtual appointments, most recovery can be done with the help of household objects that you already have. If you need or want to incorporate additional equipment, talk to your physical therapist and they can help you get set up.
Our physical therapists
Can I see the same therapist for all my visits?
Yes. We believe that great care starts with a strong relationship between the therapist and patient. Therefore, we make it a priority that you see the same therapist for every appointment with us.
Who are Kins physical therapists?
We have a community of experienced therapists who have been practicing on average for 3+ years. All of our therapists go through a rigorous hiring process to ensure they adhere to evidence-based care. In addition, many of our therapists have specialties in areas ranging from orthopedics to sports medicine to geriatrics. As part of your onboarding, we collect information from you about your condition and match you with a therapist experienced in treating your condition. This way you are seeing a therapist who understands your condition and can personalize your treatments.
